I am quite younger than you but thought I would offer some words of encouragement. Do you know when your mother started menopause? I do believe that could be an indicator for when you're supposed to start.
However, keep in mind that your symptoms could mean many different things. If you have a low sex drive and cramps, your doctor may prescribe estrogen pills (which may or may not be birth control pills). I have been on Ortho-Trycyclen Lo and did not have very many side effects at all. I don't think it caused rapid weight gain either. If you are trying to lose weight, ask your doctor for advice. No matter if you're on the pill or not, sticking to a diet and excercise plan is the only way you will lose weight.
It is good that you're seeing your doctor today. I am sure they will help ease your mind. Maybe bring along a set of questions with you to your visit, so you will remember to get all the information you need.

Thanks Lisa, Has this B/C helped you with mood and anxiety?

Hmmm.. I don't think the pill did help me with mood and anxiety. I'd tell your doctor about your anxiety symptoms and they might also give you medication for that. The type of anxiety I suffer from is mostly genetic, and has been triggered by some unbelieveable, highly stressful life events, so I probably need something stronger than just estrogen to help me. There are many kinds of birth control, and your doctor can give you something to address your needs. For example, I know that Ortho-Trycyclen helps with acne.

I am on Seasonale & love it. I only have 4 periods a year, no cramps or pms. I haven't had problems with weight taking BCP, either.
Good luck!
