I'm just wondering if anyone else has been diagnosed with Basal Joint arthritis of your thumb. I turned 50 in the fall. I fell when painting and broke my left wrist. From over use of my right hand over the past three months, it is now bothering me. My dr has diagnosed arthritis and put me in a splint. Just curious on others treatments and outcomes.
Thanks, cas

My rheumatoid arthritis started in my thumb and the first thing my doctor did is put me in a splint and told me to stay off of work for 2 weeks. For me that didn't help much. Then I got a coritsone injection in my wrist because the tendons to my thumb by that time was inflamed too. Now most of my joints have RA so now I am on Methotrexate and a NSAID that is not helping much either. I will see what is next when I go see my doctor next week.

Annette, that's what mu dr said was the next step also, cortisone shot. It doesn't sound very pleasant. At least for me now the rest does seem to be helping at times, but this is my right hand and it's pretty difficult to function without it. Thanks for the reply. cas
