Hi All,

I have come down with the flu (fever, headache, fatigue). I called my on call pediatric nurse practioner and she said I probably should not breastfeed when I have a fever.

I have the "what to expect book" which says the opposite that you should continue nursing as it is the best way to keep the babys immune system strong to protect against getting the virus.

Has anyone else gotten information from their doctor on this issue. My 4 month old has never had formula and I just hate the idea of introducing it to her know while I am sick and can't devote much attention to her potential reaction.

help!

Keep nursing! Also please inform your doctors office to get educated on breastfeeding! Who knows what they are telling other people.

Yes, like everyone else said, you should always nurse when you are ill because it passes on the anitbodies to your baby so they (hopefully) don't get sick. It's scary these "professionals" are out there giving bad advice.

I am sitting here right now with a head cold with 3 month old DS at the breast! I am miserable without the normal dayquil or otc cold remedies but I am sure continuing to breast feed is the best thing for DS. I am only taking the minimum doseage of tylenol and an occasional cough drop (menthol). I am terrified of DS getting a cold as well but I can't very well stop feeding him.
