Hello All,
I'm new to the board, but I've come on a few times to read your guys stories and get tips. I've got a quick question about Topamax I'm hoping you guys can help me with. I met with a neuro for the first time today (more on that in a later post). For the past six months of so I've been taking Topamax 100mg (50mg twice a day). My neuro wants to double my dosage and put it to 200mg. I'm wondering since I'm doubling my dosage, am I going to get the side effects again?? Or is my body pretty much use to the Topamax?

Any comments would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
Sandie

PS: I've had migraines for about 9 years. Past two months, migraines have spiked in severity and number. Neuro didnt request any test, just upped dosage. Weird to anyone?

You've been on Topamax for 6 months already. What kinds of test did you expect other than a simple blood test?

My Neuro wanted to up the dose to 200mg but I refused because she could NOT CONFIRM that the side effects would get any worse or better.

I have been on 100mgs for 2 1/2 years now. Doing great! Except now I am starting to experience muscle/joint aches & pains which are a side effect not mentioned in Topamax litature.
Going to talk to my Neuro about lowering my dosage.

has your neuro stated what type of migraines you are having? I kept having them at lower doses, but once my dose was increased to 250 a day I've only had 2 mild ones in 3 mts and they were controlled with 7.5mg of lortab and sleep. As far as increased side effects I really haven't noticed any more other than occasional tingling of the hands and feet, but that's worth it to not have a migraine to me. By tha way I have BAMS(Basilar artey migraines). Best of luck to you.
ALicia
