View Full Version : Abdominal Pain / Spasms

I am a 42 year old male, diagnosed about 12 yrs ago with FMS. Generally, I am able to keep things pretty well in check.

Over the years, I have been prone to real severe pain if I over-stress a muscle. Usually, this happens at unexpected times. I am not certain but I suspect the pain is sort of like a "burner" or "stinger" sports injury, except mine might come just because I moved a muscle too quickly or too far. The pain is incredibly intense for maybe 30 seconds and then it just goes away. I have always chalked this up as being a part of FMS though I do not believe I have ever talked to anyone about it. Does anyone else experience this?

Recently, I have been getting these same pains in my upper abdomen - upper left or upper right. The pain lasts for about 30 seconds, usually traveling around to my back as well. Sometimes it does happen when I move or stretch and other times it seems to happen for no reason. These came on pretty suddenly - maybe one every couple of days at first but now they are occurring maybe 2 - 3 times a day.

Does this at all sound like it could be FMS related? Thanks.

Hi,

It sounds like muscle spasms. I'm no doctor, but I can get this kind of pain in neck, back, shoulders and arms.
But since they are increasing, how about checking it out with a doctor?
Keep us posted,

Have you had your thyroid checked? I went from hyper to hypothyroidism, and ever since I have experience abdominal pains and spasms. I was checked for everything just about and they say that is common with thyroid patients. It just seems like fibro is the umbrella of a rainbow of symptoms. Hope you get to feeling better!

In thinking more about this, it feels almost like a charley horse in my upper abdomen, usually focuse don either the left or the right.

I get these daily and they hurt more than words can describe. Mine are directly under my ribcage and get hard as rocks. I also get them in my sides and back, my feet, hands and lefts. It is some very severe muscle cramping.

I am going to see my first rheumatologist next month so right now I am not taking anything for the cramping. I actually had one today while driving and had to pull the car over in a parking lot and stand up and wait it out. I can actualy feel the muscle when it contracts and relaxes and then lets go.
