I got the okay to start my dd on solids. The Dr. said to start with the cereal and in about a week start introducing the jar foods. Start with orange veggies and then the green and intoduce a new one every three days. So my questions are as follows:

1. When I start with the jar food do I stop the cereals?

2. I know each baby is different but how much jar foods did you start with and how often are you suppose to increase the servings.

3. She is a little over 4 months. I fed her rice cereal and she seemeed not to like it that much. How long does it take them do get use to using a spoon? She seems to spit the food right out.

It took a while for ds to "get it". He was tough at first. Be patient, it's so new to them. I would do the cereal at the same time as the veggies. Start with stage 1 jars ( although she probably won't eat the whole thing, and just keep trying and upping the amount that she would like. You'll learn the sighns of being full. I've never ever pressured ds to eat anything he didn't like, but I would try it again the next day, and so on, until he got used to it.
Maybe your daughter is still a little too young for solids if she's spitting it out. They have a toung reflex that pushes out food if they're not ready. You could hold off a few weeks if you think that may be the case. Then things will get messy!!!!!!!!!!

1. When I start with the jar food do I stop the cereals?
I continue the cereals along with the jar foods. I've been told & read the cereals contain iron and something else babies should be getting in their diets no later than 6 months...so cereal is the primary solid. The jar foods are in addition to the cereal. That's what my Ped said, anyway. I have 2 little bowls for every meal. 1 for cereal and 1 for jar food.

2. I know each baby is different but how much jar foods did you start with and how often are you suppose to increase the servings.
For jar foods, I started with about 1/4 of the jar at each sitting, but that changed just a few days into it when she got the hang of it. She began to eat ½ jar at each meal with no problem and it has been that same amount ever since (she's 5 months now). Her cereal is 1-1½ oz breast milk mixed with cereal. I then finish her off with breastfeeding...more for hydration purposes than anything. If I sense she's more hungry, she gets more cereal before she gets more jar food. See #1's response on why more cereal than jar food.

3. She is a little over 4 months. I fed her rice cereal and she seemeed not to like it that much. How long does it take them do get use to using a spoon? She seems to spit the food right out.
Just keep trying. It takes practice for you and the baby. You can also experiment with the consistency of the cereal. Ava didn't take to it when I mixed the cereal according to the box instructions...it was watery and hard to feed with a spoon...let alone her take it in her mouth like that. I use almost double the amount of cereal they recommend. There was a recent thread about solid foods...I think last week or so where we talked about this a lot. I'll see if I can find it and bump it up.
