My son is having trouble with cramps and gas all the time, and is yet to have a solid poop. He is taking Similac with Iron right now. I have been giving him Mylicon, but am worried that I am giving him too often, and don't want to depend on this medicine all the time. He is 8 weeks old. When did you notice your babys first hard poop? Shouldn't he have had one by now? I have left a couple messages for my Dr to call me and have not heard from him yet, so I was going to buy something from the store myself to try. Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Mylicon is prefectly safe to give him. My DD was gassy and she was breastfed until she was 4 months old. I gave her Mylicon after her feedings alot. She slep alot better with it too. I have heard that Good Start supreme is really good for gasy babies. My daughter hardley ever had a problem with that. It has comfort protiens in it. You may also want to change the bottle or nipple to see if that helps. Sometimes that is the problem. Also a big one is feeding them before they get too hungry so they don't gulp down gas. My DD was horrible about that. Hope this helps.

Soy formula helped one of my kids going through some gas issues. Lots of babies have issues with milk based formula.

BTW I would wounder about your doctor not calling you back within a day. That's what they're there for. Sounds like they're slacking.

And babies poops really aren't suposed to be "hard"...do you mean solid, like not just a mustardy liquid?

I can't help you with the formula question. We were lucky in that DS has been on the same one forever and he's never had a problem (He just has the Enfalac with Iron). What do you mean by no solid poop? Is it watery or just mushy? DS's didn't go from mushy to semi-solid till he started eating solids. Before that it was alway like soft pudding. Sorry if I ruined pudding for ya but that was the only way I could think to describe it. If it's watery, like a clear brown water than it could be diarehha. He had that happen once after his first set of shots. Pudding is normal, watery probably is not.

I agree with the good start 100%. Dd went from screaming her head off all the time to smiling and singing all the time.

Switching from a iron added formula to a regular formula can help as well. Iron can be hard on a tummy and too much iron can give you harder, darker and more solid stools. One day try using formula with iron the next day no iron. That should help. Also you can try some gas drops with every meal. Switching bottles can help as well. I found the Gerber bottles the worst for gas. I found avent and playtex adance much better.

I hoped that helped.
