Hi, I started working as a maid. I'm not sure why but my boss does not supply gloves and nobody I work with uses gloves. Is this safe? Can you get hiv or any diseases from cleaning toilets, showers, etc... without using gloves? Thanks.

No you cannot contract HIV from cleaning toilets, showers, etc for a number of reasons: the most important being that the HIV virus is fragile and couldn't stand the use of cleaning products and, therefore, the virus itself would die as a result of using those products. Remember, HIV is a very fragile virus, and is transmitted through sexual contact with a positive partner and the sharing of bodily fluids.

However, it is just good practice to use gloves when cleaning. There are other infections that one could contract other than HIV.
