Hi himmy -

I have never taken ortho lo, but I started Ovcon 35 about three months ago and I have gained about 10 pounds. Other than that I love it...it pretty much got rid of my migraines, and i feel pretty good. I have almost no period it is so light...but I might quit it jsut because of the weight gain alone. I also have not had an increased sex drive, which is what I actually switched for.

I guess I responded too late, but yes, I would say that OTC Lo is a great choice, because I've taken it and I haven't noticed ANY of the side effects, and I think I gained about 5 pounds or so, but that's just because I've been eating a lot lately! I also had a little bit of spotting recently, but everything has been functioning normally. I'm glad my gyn recommended it, and I think it's a good choice for you, hope it works out!

I just got done griping about low dose and the new triphasic pills! LOL! Ive gotten pregnant 3 times on them. The last baby was born in December and was conceived on Ortho Tri cyclen. I didnt gain weight, or have ANY side effects the yr plus I was on it.. UNTIL I got pregnant anyway. :P The oly thing I felt worked for me was Ortho Novum 1/50 but I dont think they even RX that anymore because it had such high estrogen. I believe there were several Ortho novums.. but that one had 50 mcg of etrogen and the only thing that worked for me. Now Im on Depo and feel comfortable with it at the moment until the hubby gets his vasectomy in April. I had PPD and the depo has made it worse, but the Dr has given me antidepressants until I can get off of it totally. Seems Depo is hard on women too..

BTW, Im 35 and worked in the healthcare field.. not a kid that cant figurte out how to take the pill for effectiveness. It just doesnt work well on some folks. These lo pills may not have the side effects but I personally do NOT feel they are as effective as the traditional hi dose pills.

I hated OTC Lo - it made me so depressed and I lost my sex drive. I love Ovcon 35 - no side effects at all - the best pill Ive ever been on.

I didn't care for OTC Lo either...I had horrible breakthrough bleeding and cramps for the three months that I was on it. It gave me mood swings too. The whole reason I started the pill was for unbearable cramps. But it could be wonderful for you...it just all depends on the person. I've been on Yasmin and really like it, but some people hate it. Good luck. :)
