 A few years ago he had rather frequent migraines and then they phased out, he only got one maybe every 3-4 months for many years. Recently for some reason they've been occuring frequently again, 1-2 /week. I think it could be stress related, they usually strike on his way home from work or class (he is a full time engineer and studying for his second masters degree at night & work has been stressful lately). He's 26 years old & not on medication. I ask him what he's had to eat on days that he has headaches but I can't make a solid connection between his headache & any particular food. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this- could it be stress? What can he do to cut down the frequency of his migraines, since he can't change how tough work is right now, he can only change how he reacts to it?

has he seen a neuro for these migraines? They can prescribe him daily meds to prevent the migraines from occuring as frequent. he may want to concider giving that a try. there are a lot of really good preventative meds out there now for controlling these awful demons we call MIGRAINES! I've been on topomax for a while now and had great results.

Agree w/agravy. Your husband needs to see a Neuro ASAP. Specifically one that specializes in the treatment of migraines/headaches.

STAY AWAY FROM TOPAMAX :nono: Because of the side effects & your hubby's line of work I would not recommend this drug. There are other preventative migraine meds out there for your husband to take.
If you do decide to go the doctors strongly suggest that you do your own home work (research) regarding the meds side effects & pump your doctor about same.
Good luck!

Thank you both for your comments and suggestions. Mz Migraine, why should he stay away from Topomax specifically due to his career?

The above is just the "tip of the iceburg". Like I said, do your own research on Topamax!
Read what other users have said about the drug on this forum, use this site's medical research & use Google.
I will say this: Topamax is a new drug for the treatment of Epilepsy recently approved by the FDA.
The side benefit is that it has also been found to help *reduce* migraines.
The drug affects the brain.
The reason why I stress for you to do your own research is because not everyone suffers the same side effects because of Topamax effect on the brain.
Good Luck! Believe me you're going to need it.
