My two year old daughter has very fine/thin hair. Every morning when she wakes up the back of her head/hair looks horrible. The best way for me to describe it is that it looks a lot like Barbie Doll's hair when it’s all tangled up. I use detangler every morning and gentle comb her hair. If I'm too rough with her hair when combing it, the hair will fall out. She has a huge bald spot at the back of her hair. The bald spot on her head isn’t too bad or noticeable. You have to pick up the top layers of hair in order to see it. I'm just afraid that she may lose even more hair. She should be growing hair, not losing it!

If anyone has any suggestions as what I should do, please let me know. Thanks!!! ;)

Try braiding her hair at night. I have a neice that has long hair that tangles really bad and she is really tender headed. My sil braids her hair at night and that seems to help with the tangles.

I had this problem as a child. Mornings were a nightmare for me. Screaming and crying as my mother lost her patience trying to remove the tangles. Sometimes she would get so annoyed she's just get the scissors and cut the tangles out! I had layered hair before it was popular, lol. Braiding helped when my hair was long enough, but I didn't like the waviness it created. Johnson's and Johnson's had a product called, "No More Tangles." It was wonderful. When I was about 10 or 11, I started washing my hair every morning and as long as I used a good conditioner, I didn't have a problem with the tangles. My hair is still a tangled mess in the mornings, and on days that I don't shampoo, I have learned to be very gentle and use a very wide toothed comb.

Raw apple cider vinegar does a great job in detangling and softening. Mix a few tablespoons in a litre of warm water and rinse the hair after shampooing. Also massaging some wheatgrass juice onto the scalp a few times a week should strengthen and reduce fallout.

I appreciate all the advice everyone has given!!! :)

I was wondering if a leave-in conditioner would help???

Leave in conditioners are really great for getting out tangles. The thing to be careful with though, especially with a child is to not use it too often, maybe just once a week. Because the build up isnt good for your hair. I really like leave in conditioners, I use them 2 times a week!

Poor little thing! The bad part is that if you don't find a remedy, she could always have a problem and a bald spot when she's older won't be "in style". What we use on my 7 year old is Matrix Biolage hydratherapie Daily Leave-In Tonic. Whew that's a mouthful. This was recommended by the stylist at Great Clips and it's amazing! We got her hair trimmed to get the dry ends off & also stopped washing her hair every night...we live in Wisconsin and it was drying out her hair. We now wash every other day, spray this in, comb through, lightly dry but not completely and let her go to bed. If tangly in the morning, we can spray on more to use as a detangler. But honestly, since using this stuff, I haven't had to help brush her hair. It's very shiny and smooth. What I also used to do is try to hold my daughter's hair in sections as I brush so that my hand can pull the hair rather than it pulling direct from her scalp. As long as I do small sections, this works too. Hope that helps!

PS...This hasn't caused her any build-up etc, just soft shiny hair. I've never seen her hair look this good before. I think it's all in the quality of the product...and the Wal-Mart type detanglers and leave-ins, I don't recommend. We've been that route. They DO leave build up.

Angel, I can relate to your little girl. I've always had super fine, super thin hair, and I remember crying every time my mom or grandmother would brush it. For me, braiding didn't help either because when she would undo the braids, it left my scalp real tender and sore. As Choice mentioned in an earlier post, the product called "No More Tangles" did the trick for me too. It's very inexpensive and works like a charm. Now that I'm an adult, I still use it. LOL I found that leave in conditioners tend to dry my hair out even more, but the "No More Tangles" doesn't. A few years ago I bought myself some satin pillow cases and now I have very few tangles to deal with when I wake up. It might help your daughter too.

Why not give her a really cute short haircut?

Do you try using spary on hair detangler? Try Johnson's No More Tangles, or even INFUSIUM would work, to help make her hair more managble and eaiser to brush.
