Back in Sept. 2005 I tried to lose weight while on Prednisone. At that time I lost 10 pounds. The first of Dec. I got off of Prednisone and continues to try and lose weight. Since Christmas I lost another 10 pounds. Which suprised me because I have been eating things that I usualy don't and my RA is bad so I have not been able to go for as many walks. Since I got off the Prednisone the weight is coming off faster and easier. I hope that this continuse so I can lose another 40 pounds.

I have been on Prednisone over a year now. Trying to get off of it, but seems like when I go below 10 mg. I go into a flare with my RA. I have gained about 25 lbs. since last summer. My meds have finally kicked in and I am doing alot better, so once again I am going to start weaning off of the Prednisone slowly. I have not been able to do much of any exercise over the winter due to the painful joints, but I hope I can soon start getting back to walking or some kind of physical exercise.

How long were you on Prednisone and did you have any problems going off of it?

I was only on Prednisone for 7 months. They started me on 20mg to see if I did have RA. It worked so well that I was a differnt person. Then he wanted to tapper me down to 15mg for a month and then 10 for a month. Around the second day on 15 I couldn't stand the pain. I went to my gp because the other doctor was on holidays. He put me back up to 20 for ten days and then begin tappering again. That is what I did and agin I could not stand the pain. Went back to the doctor and he told be that there is no dought that I had RA. He then but me on Methotrexate and increased the Prednisone up to 20. Then 2 months after that I started to tapper again. But this time it was alot easier. I went from 20-15-10 in two months. He wanted me to stay at 10 for another month and then go to 7.5. But I felt so good that we decied to goto 5 for two week and then totaly off of it. The pain didn't return until amonth later when I got realy bad and I spent 3 days in bed. I couldn't go back on it becaue it gave me high blood pressure. Hope you have a easir time with it then I did.

Annette I seem to have the opposite situation. I believe the prednisone also helps my thyroid to work better (I do take thyroid meds) and of course I am able to do more so I seem to be able to lose weight when I am on prednisone and I gain faster when I am off it. I must just be a strange person.
