I was just wondering if any of you have had a flare as bad as that first one. I've had alot of bad days since my first one, but not as bad. That first flare was a nightmare! Also, can you feel different from one HOUR to the next? I mean, sometimes I'll feel terrible and then an hour or two later I'll feel OK, just to feel terrible again later. I'm also wondering if fibro can cause swelling. I've had alot of pain in my ankle, (I don't remember twisting it or anything), I can walk on it OK unless I happen to step and put more pressure on the outside, but it also keeps swelling. Right around the outside ankle bone. The swelling seems to come and go some. From some of the things I've read, fibro shouldn't cause swelling, but I don't know. Real people who have fibro seem to know more about it!

This thing is new to me and I appreciate any input anyone has. Thanks!!

HI,

Don't have the swelling in the ankle, but you might see a doc. It could be from muscle inflammation or something in the joint. I don't know that to be a fms symptom, but maybe others here do.
As far as feeling terrible then fine, then terrible, oh, yes. Drives me mad because I can make plans and commit to things, then crash and have to rest instead. I never can tell what causes this.
I was thinking earlier today about the nutziness of a life in which I can feel fine, get things done, and have the good feeling overshadowed by the knowledge in the back of my mind that I'll probably be in bed tomorrow for a good while.
Do get your ankle checked out if you can,

Peace,

Seaturtle

Yes my initial flare was a nightmare too and lasted from April - Late June of 04. I haven't had a flare near that bad since. I don't have any swelling.

Check with your doc on the swelling. It is most probably from something else. Mine's from RA. It's quite common for a person with one autoimmune disorder to end up with another one.

I have had worse flares since my initial diagnosis, but I know I had fibro for a long time and didn't know it. Just kept going so I was flaring and not knowing that what was happening. I also can be good one day and bad the next, it is what it is. Yes be sure and check with your doc, swelling could be an indication of something else.

I haven't been "diagnosed" yet but all signs point to FM.

I have horrible swelling. Never in my ankle as of yet, but I will get knots under my skin usually where a major muscle is. I have had one side of my neck, arm, inner thigh, etc... swell up 4 times it's normal size.

I have had this "flare up" or whatever it may be since the end of October and it has shown no signs of letting up any time soon.

Like you, I can feel good one hour....heck one second.....then the next I'm hurting so bad I can't see straight.
Like Seaturtle I have a hard time committing to things because I know I will have to cancel or either go and be miserable the whole time. I have missed doctors appts, son's ballgames, etc... because I couldn't force myself out of the bed or could barely walk.

Good luck. I hope the flare ups stay far away.

Thanks for the input. I did have my ankle checked out yesterday and it's just a pulled muscle, the one that's around the bottom of the outside ankle. Dr. did X-rays and everything and I just have to wear some arch supports and take it easy on that ankle for awhile. He said it's kind of a hard place for a muscle to heal because of the amount of time someone spends on their feet. It's wierd because it doesn't hurt to walk UNLESS I step on it just a little wrong, and then it's awful! I've had testing for RA and it was negative, so we're not worried about that. Thanks again!
