Hey everyone,

I just had an Echo this past Monday followed by a 24 hour holter monitor. Ordered by my doctor because I've been having some chest pain, and I'm panting for breath after walking up stairs. While I was wearing my holter, I took my pulse after walking down the stairs and walking briskly around the room, and my pulse was 164. Any ideas why it would be so high after hardly doing anything? Also, my grandfather past away a few weeks ago from a heart attack, and My Mom had her aoritc valve replaced 3 weeks back because it was almost closed over. There are probably 5-6 other cases of heart failure in the family. Any similar situations?? I'm still waiting for my test results.

Thanks!

Princess Belle

I have been having left arm pains and some chest pain here and there I go for a stress test with echo tomorrow. If I were you I would try to avoid stairs and I wouldnt exercise until the cause is found. If nothing is found with the echo I would ask for a stress test next, not to say it is a blockage but it may be since you have chest pain and short of breath and a family history just be careful and I wish you luck

thank-you for your fast reply tnmomofive!

I'm still waiting around to hear results from the office. I'm sorry to hear you also, are having to go in for some tests. Does anyone know how long it usually takes to get the echo and holter monitor results back?

thanks again!

Princess Belle I had shortness of breath walking up stairs and walking across a parking lot. Some days I would have no shortness of breath at all. Other days I could walk say 10 or 15 minutes up and down a hill and I would be fine until I turned around and came back up and down those same hills and then it would hit. It was easy for me to ignore the shortness of breath thinking that I was just beginning to get out of shape. I never checked my pulse so I don't know whether it raised or not.
