View Full Version : Is this supposed to be happening?

I have just begun the recovery process, and every time I eat, my stomach gets HUGE!! I HATE it! Is that normal, or am I on my way to just being fat? My husband and I are leaving on Feb. 20 for Cancun, and I cannot have a huge stomach in a bathing suit. I know that sounds vain and maybe petty too, but I guess it's that whole self image thing, you know? Every time I see my stomach looking like this, it makes me think my ED wasn't so bad after all, at least I had a flat stomach when I wasn't eating.

Anyone else have this problem?

yep, sweetie, it's normal. your body isn't used to eating anywhere near normal quantities of food, so the bloating and swelling is TOTALLY normal and expected when you start eating a healthier diet again.

that being said, it will go away! (hurrah!!!) BUT, it will only go away if you stick with it, so don't let Cancun make you start restricting, okay? if you stick to your meal plan until the trip (Feb. 20, right?), i'm 99% sure the bloating will have taken care of itself by then. (for me as i increased my intake, it was always HORRIBLE bloating/swelling for the first couple days, but it ALWAYS got back to normal within a week)

so just stick it out and you'll look totally unbloated by the time you go on your trip!

i went to the doc for this b'cos i was finding it so darn horrible and he gave me some pills to reduce acid, said when u loose alot of weight your body takes time to adjust and stop producing the amount of acid its used to.. he said its like ur body playing catch up, and that it will it just takes some time, in the meantime these pills ive been taking are really helping so maybe you could talk to ya doctor about it.. he/she mite be able to give u sumthing?

Thank you so much for letting me know that! This "pooch" I've got has been driving me crazy (and scared me alot!) I have been exercising like mad to try to help get rid of it, but I guess that's not really going to get rid of it either. At least I know maybe I can ease up on that since this is just a temporary thing anyway.

I hope all is going well with you. My thoughts and prayers are with you and everyone on this board.

bj's mum:

If the bloating doesn't go away very soon, I'll definitely ask my dr about the pills. If they help, that would be great!

Thank You!!
