iwillgetwell 02-10-2006, 04:44 PM Monday I have to see an Endocrinologist for my bulimia. Has anyone ever had to see one for thier ED. Can any one tell me what an Endocrinologist is? Or thier experience with an Endocrinologist. Help  Natalie00 02-10-2006, 07:07 PM Endocrinologists diagnose diseases that affect your glands, and they know how to treat conditions that are often complex and involve many systems within your body. They treat things like diabetes, thyroid diseases and metabolic disorders. Why were you told to go see an endocrinologist? I am not sure what bulimia has to do with it.... iwillgetwell 02-11-2006, 01:34 AM thants what i dont get....i have no idea. maybe i have it wrong.. sorrel2 02-11-2006, 08:00 AM Sometimes EDs cause physical symptoms that can overlap with symptoms of endocrine disorders ... so maybe your doc is trying to determine what's caused by your ED and what might be due to an underlying, unrelated problem? I was sent to an endocrinologist because of amenorrhea and severe edema. These things might, theoretically, have been due to some endocrine disease -- but they arent. They're "just" from malnutrition. iwillgetwell 02-11-2006, 11:31 AM Thank You so much for your replies. I have no idea why I would need one. I am just glad to get any help even if its not for my bulimia...lol. I will keep you updated. Thank you so much for replying. iwillgetwell 02-14-2006, 08:39 PM It turns out that he was the perfect Dr to help with my bulimia. I will see him again in 3 weeks and on a regular basis. He is also finding me the right OP clinic to go to. sorrel2 02-14-2006, 08:44 PM It turns out that he was the perfect Dr to help with my bulimia. That's great! How is he specifically going to help? I am curious. I have had overwhelmingly negative experiences with doctors regarding my ED problems so it is always good to hear that there really are some good ones out there. Natalie00 02-14-2006, 09:56 PM I,too, would like to know how an Endo could help with bulimia. If there is some problem in the endocrine system as a result of the bulimia then I could see on helping, but what about the emotional reasons for developing bulimia?? In rare cases I surmise that a physical problem could maybe cause an ED, but in 99.9% of the cases it is an emotional problem. |
