I am a 43 year old single male, employed with small company( only 5 employees) for the past 10 years. Living in the south, i average 8.00 an hour, which is good, considering this area, jobs are few! We have lost employees over the past 10 years and now down to 5. Our company offers insurance, but i am the only person who had opted for it! Currently it is $250.00 a month. I had to drop it 2 years ago. The others are able to get better insuance through their spouses employers. I live alone, small efficiency apartment, one bedroom, 625.00 a month, i could drop that to 500 if i moved into an apartment in drug infested area. I dont think i would last very long, living alone, probably dead in a year. I have tried saving as best i can to keep insurance, i have no car, i use the bus. no phone! there is the electric and heating bill to contend with. I do have a computer though, which is probably a waste, but i need it. I dont go to restaurants, i dont drink, so am not wasting money! I have missed 3 days of work in the past 5 years, im always on time. What can i do? I am getting older, I need insurance, but I cant afford $250.00 ( blue cross , blue shield), without cutting down food budget, and its on low priority as it is. I dont go to doctors, havent seen a dentist in 14 years. Is there any affordable health care out there for a single person, employed, but in a financial limbo? There is no opportunity to get a raise when company is in dire straits the past 4 years, I have applied everywhere, i have not been able to find anything new, that could help! right now im looking for a second job, but i admit im getting depressed. Where does one look for insurance? any advice would be appreciated! Thank you!
