Hello-

I need some advice..I have been taking Prozac for depression/PMS for about 2 years. I have been weaned off of it for about a week. But the same things that got me started on it are coming back. I snap at my husband and kids for no reason, and it seems that everything that comes out of my mouth sounds rude. do not want to go to work at all. I am very sleepy. Are these withdrawal symptoms or do I need to go back on the med? I really do not want to spend my whole life on this medication, but my husband noticed the difference in my personality right away. Any help would be very welcome.....I was treated by a counselor for about 6 mo, but am now just monitored by my MD.

I don't think 1 week was a good taper off a psychoactive medication you took for 2 years! Should have took alot longer, minimum a few weeks. There is a withdrawal syndrome with these meds lasting a few weeks to a few months. The brain will need time to recover from daily chemical intrusion. Be patient; you may feel alot better in a few weeks. Eat alot of protein; protein breaks down into amino acids, which create many of the neurotransmitters the brain needs to function well.
