yes, especially when I was in my 20's (I am now 40). If you think some of those 70's pop hits are bad, try listening to some of the older low-key Jazz (like 'lounge' jazz); or some of the Blues songs, it will drive you nuts. Of course part of it is individual, and part of it is 'youth angst' or whatever, and part of it is the depression we have makes these songs sound even more depressing, instead of just 'sad'.
Other music to avoid is:
1)'Sweet Melissa' by the Alman Brothers
2)'She's Gone', Hall and Oates
3)'It's All In The Game', not sure but I think Nat King Cole did a version.
4) 'Honey' by Bobby Goldsboro, this is such a stupid song anyway I don't think the stations play it anymore.
seems to me some of you younger guys might want to avoid this one by Eminem (sp?) about 'cleaning your closet' or something, I heard it on the radio the other day and it sounds like he may be referring to suicide or some sort of self-abuse.

Hey, good topic! Whether or not a specific song makes you feel depressed could also depend on what memories the song happens to be associated with as well. While I'll agree that the mood of "He ain't heavy, he's my brother" is not supposed to be a cheerful one, hearing that song makes me feel better because it reminds me of when I was only 7 years old and life was more simple before my depression set in. On the other hand, I start to feel sad when hearing ANY songs that were popular around August of 1989 because they remind me of when my father died. I just happen to like all music from the late 60s and 70s because not only was that the more happy time in my life, it also was a period when the social climate was much more "genuine". Anyone my age or older should most likely know what I'm talking about.

Hi,
Eminem's talking about his childhood with his mother( she was abusive).
I totally relate to that song....I don't own it, but I relate.
