Hello everyone,
I just found this site. I'm a 49yo woman who's been going through menopause several years. I have always had migraines-triggered by various things and maybe went for 6mo in between. I didn't have a period for about 4 years, until this past summer I had a BIG one-lasted about 10 days, I felt headachy, etc. I didn't go to GYN until Dec-she said my hormones had "probably" dipped lower and she gave me a new hormone. OK, for about 4 mo (I didn't tell the GYN) I started having a weird different headache. The first week or so, it woke me during the night--horrible. The moment I opened my eyes of the morning or during the night it hurt..but lessoned through the morning..and dulled by evening but never went away. After about a week of that .. it lessoned when I woke--& opened my eyes, but was still there. Now for about a couple months I still wake w/a dull headache during the night & morning. It remains until about 3-4p..when it simply is gone. Ever since the "big" period last summer I have been unable to sleep..and the headache is sl better when I close my eyes for a moment (like during lunch at work)..
It seems to be in the back of my head.. coming around one side or the other--every now and then it is across my forhead. Usually midmorning.. my eyes and behind my eyes hurt bad. Little more info: I started about last spring wearing otc magnifying glasses--due to age---I can see a blur only. I sometimes take a couple motrin during the day.. but it helps very little. Does this sound like eye strain--or tension?? Or, could it be from wearing these otc glasses all the time..in order to see during the day.
I should mention I'm under alot of stress.. and am VERY unhappy at work and am applying other jobs.(I've been at this position 13yrs) I've been very unhappy at work all these years..but the past year or so I find myself VERY burned out..and depressed and snippy, edgy at work.. I can barely go in ea. morning. just curious if tension headache(s) would be so daily--I mean EVERY day--and through the night for months.
Thank you for any thoughts or support,

Classic symptoms of peri menopausal migraines & peri menopausal "episodes" (emotional ups & downs).

Either you need to find yourself a good *female* GYN and/or a *female* Neurologist that specializes in migraines/headaches. The latter are usually found at Headache Clinics.
Males don't know Jack about what's going on. :nono:

Zoloft will help you with the "episodes". :D
I feel for ya girlfriend. Been there, done that!!!!!

Good Luck!!!!!

Mzmigraine,
Thank you for reading and posting to my question. So you've had this type migraine-or whatever it is?? It worries me that I have literally had this for months--EVERY day. It wears off--as the day progresses.. but returns always--every morning the moment I awaken. If I get very little or no sleep the night before..it is soooo bad I vomit and am very shaky most of the next morning. That tells me it is sleep related..maybe I've gone so many years w/ such little sleep..my brain/eye muscles or something just can't take it anymore.
Add to this mixture, I have hypothyroid.. plus going thru menopause..all those hormones.. I'm just falling apart.
(it doesn't help to be working in a sick, abusive environment either...)
anwyay, thank you,

Still do! From what I've been told, I could for the next 15 years!!!!!!
I do not get night sweats nor do I get hot flashes.
Instead I get full blown migraines *attacks* which can happen at anytime. Luckly there is medication for it.

My *episodes* have vanished just as quickly as they have appeared. I was on Zoloft for only a few months.

Unluckly for me I also suffer from another type of migraine which I have to take a different type of medication for. :bouncing:
