My sister has had some briuses to pop up recently. She says her viens hurt and then a knot will develop and later a bruise. She has had some enlarged lymph nodes for about a year and when she went to have a biopsy the surgeon just felt of them said they were normal and sent her on her way. Now these bruises are popping up. She has to go get some tests ran tomorrow. I was wandering if anyone has ever expereinced these symptoms. She went and had a Bleed time test ran the other day and it took her blood 24 and a half min. to clot but the normal time for clotting is 8-12 min. Any Info would be greatly appreciated.

Never mess around with unexplained bruising. If you are buising with no asscociated cause in multiple places, get a complete blood count. Low platelet counts are nothing to play around with, as even if it is not leukemia, it can lead to internal bleeding as well as serious issues after trauma, if you cannot stop bleeding.

Bruising can also be caused by self induced things like over-use of aspirin as it deactivates the clotting of otherwise normal platelets. There are also a number of other medications that also cause "blood thinning".

Before she goes into a doctor, have her take out a notepad and write down everthing that she thinks is wrong so that she can refer to it in the doctors office. Sometimes when confronted with the stressful situation of being in a doctor's office, people can forget the details of what they have noticed.
