If a person's cholesterol is normal. Why is it recommended to have it checked again in 5 years? Does it take that long for cholesterol to go up? Also, do you know how long (with diet, no pills) does it take for cholesterol to start going down and improving?

Thank You,

Bernice

I think some drs. go by your risk factors, age etc. to decide how often a person should be tested. With some people cholesterol can go up very easily and within a short period of time, others seem to maintain a healthy level for years. As far as diet and exerise, that is about the same, as each person is different, so it could be lowered within a few months, or it could take longer.

If your cholesterol levels are good, I would make sure U maintain a healthy diet, exercise and hope it stays that way. I know folks in their 60's with great cholesterol and know other's in their 30's with rotten numbers. For some, it is due to poor diet, many just have lousy genes and have a very hard time maintaining good numbers. Hopefully your a lucky one that will not have any cholesterol problem.

Best wishes....
