For years I was taking zocor and would always have stomach problems.I tried other drugs but they gave me the same problems. We moved to another state and i didn't take any meds for a year when I had a blood work up my total Cholesterol was once again in the 300's. I told my new doctor what zocor and the other drugs did to me and he started me on tricor 145 mg and I have had no problems with it In 6 months my total cholesterol was 221 but this month when I went and had my blood work up it jumped to 256. My doctor nor I could believe it. I have always eaten a healthy diet and I have not eaten meat in years My weight stayes around 115 and I seem to do everything right. Has this happened to anyone of you. BTW my good cholesterol is always at a good range.

It was a fasting test right? Maybe U had eaten something within the last few days before the test to make your cholesterol go up, and on the other hand, it could have been a lab error. Last year they did blood work on me and my Thyroid numbers were all out of wack, and my lipid panel was fairly high, but 3 months later they came back fine, and I am not on meds. for it. Did your dr. say anything about U possibly being retested in a couple of months?

Good luck, and keep us posted........

Just don't let them try and have you take Tricor (fenofibrate) and statins together , this is a major no ,no and is even mentioned in the side effects if you read them . This gives the major risk of muscles problems .

He didn't say anything about an error but I get tested every month. I have been eating the same things and yes I fast before the test. I hope it was an error but on the plus side the good cholesterol is still way up there.

Well he wouldn't know if it was an error, they only go by what is reported to them. Just wait and see how it goes next month seeing U go every month. Glad the HDL is up, that always helps, but U have to look at the whole picture and the ratios. Hopefully things will be better next month. Don't know what all your numbers were, so have no idea what your ratio is, but guess the dr. isn't concerned at this point. Always ask for your complete lipid panel numbers..total cholesterol, LDL, HDL and Trigs.

Good luck, and hopefully next test will be fine......

he told me what they were and I do remember that the good was 80 I forget what the bad was and my trig was normal. I do know that I will not add a statian. He gave me a supplement called Starlight fat free.

Well 80 is darn good, and your Trigs were ok, so things hopefully will be better next test. Never heard of Starlite. Hope the next test is better.

Have a good one, and TTYL.....

This is what I don't like he is a distibutor for Starlight supplements and it is in HIS best intrest to sell them to us. To his credit he did save my DH life by making him go for an X ray that showed he had LC and when DH had a horrid rash on the top of both of his hands the chemo nurses nor the ONC knew what it was and gave him a cream that only made it worse. Our Primary told DH to stop the cream and just use nivia that worked in about three days. He does have common sense but I don't like the supplements he is getting us to use. He wants me to take with the tricor a rx powder that would flush the bad Cholesterol. But you could not take any meds for 2 hrs before and 2 hrs after taking that powder. I get bad headachs and cannot allow 4 hrs to go by without taking meds for it. I told him I wouldn't use that and then he told me about the fat free supplement that to me sounds like what the powder was supposed to do on the directions. the name of the powder is cholestryram 40m

Never heard of cholestryram either, but it sounds like Whelcol which is a pill to flush out the cholesterol in your system, U have to take 6 a day and they are big!!. I know they tried me on Whelcol and I couldn't handle it. If things don't get better for you, have a talk with the dr. and see if they can do something else. That is a long time to go between meals just to take a med. Read some of the posts on here to see what some other folks have tried for a natural way to lower their numbers, something U see just might help.

Best wishes......

Vipergg22,

I wish my doctor had told me about this combo a few years ago. I had been on Lipitor, and about a month after he added Tricor to my therapy, I experienced serious muscle pain and profound weakness which took almost a year to get over after stopping both meds.

I would also advise people to be very careful about combining statins and Tricor.

Either alone is fine - but in combination the risk of muscle problems goes up tremendously.
