My husband has recently been diagnosed with depression. He has been on Lexapro for three days. He Wont interact with me or our kids. He says he doesent want to live anymore. He won't get out of bed. We just adjatate him.
I feel so helpless. The doc says the meds will help. Does anyone ever get better?? He doesn't seem to think he will ever get any better. I need to know that things will get better. I want to help him but he doesn't want help from anyone.

Medication
Activities
Physicians and mental health professionals
And support groups or systems
These things and others can help people get better.

Lexapro helped bring me back from the dark side, took about three weeks for it to really start helping.[Hope this helps] http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/blob_fire.gif

There is a woman in the group I went to, who was better last week on Lexapro
But it took some time in her case too

You and your husband should read up on the illness, i.e. depression. Learn the nature of the beast. Learn together and reassure him of your love and understanding. He needs your sincere understanding period. Meds are great, but your husband should also seek help from an experienced and referred shrink. Remember that depression is an illness, not a cold... it will take hard work and time to grow and move on. Stay strong and supportive - he can and will get better.
