View Full Version : Calculating site...

Is there a site that shows how to do calculations for cholesterol numbers to get ratios? My dr. told me a few years ago some of the basics and I wrote them down, but I'd like to send a site to a friend to show her how to do it and maybe she will understand what it all means, as I don't know all the calculations and ratios.

Thanx in advance........ :wave:

Everyone have fun shoveling those 20 some odd inches of snow? I feel like I went thru the mill....... :D Oh the joys of getting older.

TC = LDL+HDL+(1/5 Trigs)

One useful ratio is TC/HDL, optimally <4.5.

Dr. Barry Sears (zone diet) recommends looking at the Trig/HDL ratio, stating that optimum should be around 1.

Another ratio to look at is LDL/HDL, optimally <3.5

Thanx Tobias..Most of that stuff I tried to explain to her, and also told her how to calculate the ratios, but I think she was looking for a site that explains it in full. Oh well, I did a web search and didn't come up with anything I could get all on one site, so told her she will have to do some searching to get it all down.

I know I learned most of what I know from reading posts on here, but an expert, I am not. LOL She was very uptight the other day when she got her results, as she has been on several statins, Lipitor, Crestor and now Vytorin, but she just can't seem to get those numbers down. I'm surprised also, as most folks who take the Vytorin have had good results. Oh well, hopefully her next test will be better, she gets really annoyed if her numbers don't meet the guidelines. Even though she went thru a cath 2 years ago and came up with a great report, she feels her numbers have to be perfect. Yes, I tried to tell her she is going to make herself sick worrying, but what can ya do when someone is convinced she needs perfect numbers.

Enjoy your day tomorrow, and thanx again....... :wave:
