Hello all! I am rather new to this site and hope you all can help me. Over the past year I have had a numbness/tingle feeling in my feet. I would say its like a tingle since my feet dont fall asleep. I am not in pain but its sometimes just annoying. Around the same time I also started getting a buzzing/ringing sound in my right ear. For the most part this is a low sounding noise but its starting to get to me. I am a 32 year old male who has been really healthy until these symptoms started. Do you think these symptoms are related?

My symptoms started shortly have I reieved Oral Sex. I know this is low risk but my issues wont go away and they started right after the encounter.I have been tested for all STD's back in 11/05 except for HIV and the tests were all negative. I havent gotten the nerve to test for HIV?

I have seen an ENT recently and all he said is my hearing isnt as good in one of my ears. They didnt take xrays and basically told me to deal with it. In 11/05 I had a CBC Blood test which came back in good shape. My Dr. asked me to get an MRI which also came back showing no issues with my Brain. Should I have an MRI also doen on my Spine. I was then sent to a Neurologist who ran a number of Nerve tests. The tests didnt reveal anything and they said I dont have any Nerve Disease.

Any ideas what this could be? Could this be serious?

Thanks!

Darren

Hi mate, firstly, oral is very low risk encounter, and it is good that you got checked for all std's.

The ringing in your ear is normal, i think everybody gets that, i certainly do!

And the tingling in your feet could be cramp, or something like that, get tested if you want peace of mind, but it will be negative.

Hope this helps.

Well, given the exposure you related, this is not an HIV issue. Your encounter was receptive-oral and, by all accounts, not related and HIV issue.

You may want to re-post in the Ear, Nose and Throat area of HealthBoards. This would help address buzzing/ringing sound in your ears. This is typically called "tintinitis". As for the issues related to a neuropathic issue that could be related to anything. Certainly, if you're not satisfied with the ENT or the neurologist then you should get a second opinion.

But, again, this is not an HIV issue and the fact that you have these symptoms so closely related to your encounter is, at best, coincidental. chris

Thanks guys for the quick responses! I really didnt think it was Hiv until I researched the web and found tons of sites linking Neuropathy to HIV and I got nervous

I have spoken to numerous doctors and not one of them has proscribed me anything for my issues. I found it strange but I guess its not life threatening.

So you are saying there is no reason to test for HIV?

Have a great weekend

Dear Durwood: I think what we are saying is that, given the encounter you described, you had a very low risk encounter. (Would I say, "100%"? Probably not only because I am never sure (100%) of anything anymore. However, I would say, 99.999999999%). So, we are saying that unless you've had other risky encounters that you haven't mentioned here, and your basing your concerns on the one low-risk encounter, no, I can't imagine testing for HIV.

Also, the problem with the internet is that there are only a few reputable sites that can give you objective information. There are so many sites, however, that are misleading and hypothetical. chris
