Has anyone had good results please let me know either way. My doc just gave me a prescription and I can only find negative posts on it. Thanks

Citykittie, my sister has been on Paxil since last fall and has nothing but good things to say about it. She is not experiencing any bad side effects, nor does she have the bad withdrawal symptoms that others here describe if she misses a dose.

The moral of the story? Meds are weird - even though I'm genetically 50% identical to my sister, the SSRIs like Paxil give me bad side effects, so go figure. The meds affect everyone differently. I read lots of really bad things here about Effexor before I started on it but it worked out pretty well for me.

Good luck!

Kitty,
I took Paxil for a year. It was the best thing I ever did. There are some side effects so it matters if you are planning to take it long term. Starting on it was the hardest part. I felt strange, and was soooo sleepy. It all past in a couple of weeks. I was a wreck when I started on it. I was in college as an adult, was moving across the country in a couple of months and had three teenagers who didn't want to move. I also had a list of family stuff that would put you in therapy to listen to it.

If you can get through the initial side effects and are not planning to take it forever. (I say that because of the sexual side effect) then do it! My husband was very supportive, he just wanted me to get better.

Coming off of it was a little weird. I felt strange. But I knew there was a withdrawal and did it very slowly.
I hope this helps. It seems all the antidepressant/anxiety drugs have some side effects. But for me it was worth it.
Blessings,
Kathy

I took Paxil a few years ago. It was the first antidepressant I had ever tried. I think that so far it was the best one to help with my PMS and anxiety. I however, experienced side effects that I couldnt tolerate (ie, excessive sweating and high blood pressure). What I like most about it was that I didnt worry about the little things. My friends and family didnt like me on it because I really didnt have anything to add to any conversation (which is NOT like me at all). That was ok for me for a change. I really loved the fact that I didnt care and at that time in my life, that is what I needed. I say give it a try.. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
