For the past month I have been having an achey feeling on the left side of my chest and underarm. When I turn certain ways it hurts more and also when I press in certain places. A few months ago I was diagnosed with TMJ and I have anti-inflammatory that sometimes relieves the pain. I have looked up chest pain online and everything always points to heart attacks and heart probelms. I am 17 years old and have never had any heart problems and there is no history in my family either. My parents also believe that I just pulled muscles because of the way I describe it. Can anyone tell me what it feels like when you pull muscles or also if you think this is related to my heart?

I think your parents are right sounds like pulled muscles or pinched nerve if you are still worried do a search on angina and ask your parents to take you to the doctor for reassurance but I really think you have no worries

take care

thanks for the input. i actually just tried taking tylenol and it has improved my ache. so i am going to take it continuously for the every 4 hours and see if it works because after taking just 2 my aches have improved greatly. thanks again for your input...if you do look at this again, does that tylenol helping sound like muscles to you?

Easy on the Tylenol, only take it sparingly. Too much will harm you. It should help your muscle pain but it does not reduce the inflammation that causes it, because Tylenol is not an anti-inflammatory but a pain reliever.

so i went to the doctor today and he told me i had costochondritis. that's when your cartilage between your ribs and sternum become inflamed which can be caused by anything. he said it's not my heart because i'm too young and in good health. i was put on indocin/endocin (not sure of the spelling) for one week and i am going back for a follow up next week. thank you for all of your help and concern.

My oldest son (34) has costochondritis. I guess that is why I sympathized with your pain when I read your post. I thought his was an unusual illness and didn't want to diagnosis, so didn't mention it to you. For awhile my son thought it was his heart, also. Once his heart was ruled out as the cause for his pain, he had a hard time finding a doctor that would listen to him. His started from an injury several years ago, but there are other causes also. It can be very scary and painful.
If the meds. don't help, there are alternative treatments. Main thing is the anti-inflammatory meds. to reduce the swelling and not to allow stress to take over. There are web sights that can tell you more.
I pray you have a quick recovery,
