Hi everyone.
Well unfortunately i've inherited my mothers migraines. ( i always told her i'd jump off a bridge if i got them... lol lucky me)
Anyway.. i dont get them as often or severe as she does... i get one every 3 weeks or so but they only last a few hours. They do , however, still suck.
I've tried exedrin, motrin 800, aleve, naproxin sodium (sp?) ..but none of those work. My PCP doesnt like precribing meds for some odd reason... but i think i've come to the point where i need to get something prescribed. I've taken a few of my moms fioricet..but they dont seem to do much.. also tried midrin with no luck. The only thing i've taken that has worked was vicodin es.. only because i hurt my back and had some left over from months before. Does anyone have any suggestions to what works or doesnt? My doctor is infamous for giving me meds that dont work well ( probably because i'm only about 95 lbs.. but have a strange intollerence to meds) .
I really dont have much money to "blow" on medication that doesnt work on many patients.
I just dont want to end up like my mom with weekends she doesnt remember... because she's stuck in bed.
Can anyone help me with this??
thanks

Then find one who will!

You can always ask the doctor for "samples" of the meds the prescribe. Most are more than happy to comply.

You can also get free meds directly from the drug manufacturers through their Patient Assistance Programs.

There are tons and tons and tons of migraine medications out there right now. It depends on the type of migraines you have and the severity of the pain. If Vicodin is what worked for you then it maybe looks like muscle relaxers would help you?? I dont know, but those are what work for me. I get all sorts of muscle relaxers but thats because I have tension headaches. Do you happen to know what kind of migraines you have or is it just general headaches?

well i have tried flexeril for headaches too... but i dont feel any different. The same thing happened when i was taking them for my back. I've also tried baclofen..but nothing with those either.
How would i get in touch with that patient assistant program? Maybe that would help.
thanks a lot

How would i get in touch with that patient assistant program?
By checking out the resources this site has to offer & by getting on the good side of the people behind the front desk of the doctors office. :D

The following links will get you started:

I don't know if this could be the root of your migraine problem but I know it is for many as well as myself, could your headaches/migraines be hormonal? I used to get horrible migraines the same time every month. I got on birth control and it has been a ton better. mine are caused by hormonal imbalances. just a thought.

well its funny you say that about my headaches being hormonal... because i got on the pill a year ago and i've been a raging (you know what) since. I've also been dealing with terrible breakouts with acne since. I'm willing to bet this is all hormonal. Iv'e decided to switch doctors since im just not happy with the one i have right now. thanks so much for your help guys!

I went through many different medications before finding an accidental answer. When a migraine is coming on and even if it has already arrived, I take 800mg of Motrin. If that doesn't help within about 45 minutes I take two Midrin. This ALWAYS helps. Midrin never works alone for me. Motrin sometimes works alone for me. But, Motrin and Midrin together always works for me. Not sure why. None of the other migraine medicines work for me without major side effects.
