my husband has had daily headaches for several years, been to many drs had many tests ,he went to a headache specialist who after trying many different things put him on morphine sulfate. It worked for the first time in years he has no headache, but does that now mean he will be a morphine addict is the cure worse than the disease?

but does that now mean he will be a morphine addict
That is a question you should be asking your husband's doctor?

I guess it depends. Is he ok during periods of time when he doesnt take it? Does he have withdrawl sympoms? Does he NEED to take it or is it ok if he goes without it? The only way you can tell is if you go without it.

Yah I wouldnt worry about the addiction thing then. If it starts to get bad I wouldn reccomend just lowering the dose or keeping it balanced. The main thing to worry about is not letting the medicine control you. I think that if it works you should take it though. Its worth taking something somewhat "stronger" if it helps with pain. Thats what I do anyway. I take narcotics for my migraines but I do not take more than prescribed and I dont let the medicine get to be too important. For the more mild ones I take something less strong, but when the bad ones come what can you do? Also usually doctors tend to notice if it seems to become some sort of problem. Since they are the ones prescribing it anyways.

he is absolutely thrilled to be headache free for the lst time in years,he has had to work fulltime the whole time he has had headaches that was hard for him,I am so glad he is pain free but he does need to ask the doc about the dependance issue.
