Hi,
I had a blood test done a week ago and my gpt/alt was 630 and my got/ast was 458 and phosphatase was 282, I know they are all very high, my dr. thinks it is from being on vytorin, so he took me off it. I was supposed to go back in 4 weeks now he says come back in 8 weeks because he wants more time for enzymes to come down. The thing that bothers me is I always get a pain under my right breast and when I put my seat belt on it bothers that side, very uncomfortable. I have been on many meds. for the last 3 years and thinking they all have alot to do with this liver problem. Any help as to what I should do, wait the 8 weeks or insist my dr. so a cat scan of my liver just to be on the save side.
Thanks for any help

Hi cookie--high enzymes are very common w/vytorin...the usual wait for a re-test when meds are involved is abt 6-8 weeks--depending on how long you were on the meds. The longer you're on them, the longer it takes for the #'s to go back down. Sounds like your dr is on top of it. As for the pain--it's probably from the liver being enlarged--which is common w/really high enzymes. When my #'s were in the 1000's it took a while for them to come back down, and until it did I felt the same thing you're feeling. It will subside-but it will take time. (a heating pad helped me--) Hang in there! Hope you're feeling better.

Hi Happy
Thank You for your reply. I also get that feeling of being swollen under my right breast, also pain. I have been off vytorin for about 3 weeks, and the dr. wants to wait till mid march to take another blood test. I makes sense to me with levels so high. I still would like to have a cat scan of liver and gallblatter, just to be on the save side. I was to have surgery on my ankle to remove hardware from my ankle that I broke last year, I have been putting it off due to when I had surgery on my ankle I had a blood clot, so I have been very scared of having any surgery since that, but now this its like what next, it seems like when it rains it pours as my mother used to say. Thanks for your input.

Better safe than sorry Cookie! A ct would put your mind at ease. Bless your heart- Ankle surgery, then a blood clot--Yikes--You certainly have had your fill for the year, huh? I don't blame you a bit for being hesitant abt surgery...you'll do what's best for you. Hope your ankle(and liver) is feeling better!! H/E
