Hello Eveyrone, New to this board and new to Wellbutrin. I just started taking it a week and a half ago. Since i started taking it, I've been feeling dizzy, more on edge, actually feel like my heart is racing out of my chest and I feel like i've taken ephedra. It's got me all jittery.

Is this normal? Will it go away? It doesn't seem to have helped much with my depression, because i'm edgyier (sp?) than ever. I'm snapping back at my children and husband. Uggghhh, please tell me this will end soon!!

Hi there and welcome, I'm a new too, so http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wave.gif
As I have read through many of these posts last night, It seems what your describing is normal. Your body is trying to adjust to the new meds in your body. After all it is trying to correct a "malfunction" in your brain. I was told it takes awhile before the symtoms go away because your body is adjusting, give it like a week or so and see how you feel, otherwise I would talk to my doctor or therapist.

Take care,

Hi, thanks for the response. Any one else experience this?

I'm also now really confused. I posted this same question to another group and they told me to stop them immediately and call my doctor, because it should not make my heart race like this and i could have a stroke.

The thing is, i know my doctor (seen him for years) and he'll say, OK quit then and probably prescribe me celexa which he's done in the past, but i don't want to take that because i was like a zombie and gained 40 pounds.

Oh, help, what to do? http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/confused.gif

Hi there,

I'm not new to these boards but I am fairly new to Wellbutrin.

Originally, my doctor had me try 10 samples of Wellbutrin @ 100mgs, one a day.

I experienced some dizziness and a loss of appetite, but no racing heart, probably because of the low dose.

When I was done with the samples, I waited for a couple of weeks before filling my RX for Wellbutrin. I am currently taking 150mgs once a day. It's been almost two weeks now.

I'm not experiencing the dizziness this time around and it hasn't killed my appetite like when I was on the samples.

What dose are you taking??? If it's like 150mgs twice a day, maybe you should just take one a day for a little while until your body adjusts and then in a couple of weeks up the dose to twice a day.

I hope this helps! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Yes, i'm taking 150mg twice daily. I guess i'm just REALLY scared. I don't want to have a heart attack or stroke. I'm going to quit taking them altogether, then in a week or so, try again with just one a day.

I'm scared to death right now. I literally feel like my heart is POUNDING out of my chest.

I've heard that if you've been on an AD for a while, it's not a good idea to quit cold turkey.

But since you've only been taking them for a week and a half, I'm guessing it would be okay. If you're really scared, then follow your intuition.

I think that going down to just one a day is a good idea for you. Hang in there, you're going to be okay.

I have been on Wellbutrin SR (150 2x day) for about 2 years. What you are experience is fairly normal however, I think you should have started out on only 150mg once a day for a couple of weeks and gradually added more. The other common problem with Wellbutrin is can make people a little agitated because it works on dopamine which is what gives us the energy. I simply cannot take it alone because I feel like I am crawling out of my skin. Its not uncommon to prescribe and SSRI (Celexa, prozac, zoloft,Lexapro) with the wellbutrin to counter act the agitation. See what your DR. says about that.. Good luck! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Thanks for getting back to me everyone. I thought i'd take just a moment to share some very important information with everyone.

1st, i had forgotten to tell my doc about the heart condition i had (mild condition) because i just didn't think anything would affect it.

Well after having this amazingly scary attack today with my heart racing so fast that I thought I was going to die, i decided to contact my cardiologist and tell him what i took. He wrote back basically saying that i could have killed myself today taking Wellbutrin and caffiene at the same time. He said i NEVER should have been prescribed Wellbutrin with this heart condition. I guess it's not my docs fault since i didn't tell him about my condition.

Wow, i've truly never felt so scared in my entire life!!

So, just thought i'd share, if any of you have ANY heart condition, he said NEVER take Wellbutrin, Celexa or Effexor.

I sure hope someone's able to learn form my almost tragic reaction today.

Oh wow- I'm glad you are okay! That is very scary to know that something serious could have happened to you. It is even scarier to think that something like an AD that is supposed to help you get well can be very dangerous to your health. I always tell my parents that they are going to take off at least 20 years of my life cause I feel so messed up with the side effects and withdrawals- I really feel they screw up my brain. My philosophy though is- Rather live shorter happier than longer sad!!
I had a terrible experience with Well at the beginning of this month (I am currently in the trial and error stage of AD's) Gained weight on other SSRI's so I thought I give Well a try. It made me feel like absolutely hell- I have never felt that depressed in my life. I thought I lost my mind. I was also jittery, dizzy, tired, crying etc. I was also drinking a lot of caffenine to keep me somewhat functioning.
Not trying to scare anyone from Wellbutrin or AD's in general!! Everyone is different and the meds all affect us differently for a million different reasons. I think my brain just overloaded on the Well- maybe should have started out on a lower dose- who knows! Good luck to everyone- stay well. You are all in my prayers.
