Hi there,

About 8 months ago now i came out in a hives type rash and could not identify any precipitaing factors. The rash came on suddenly and the itching was very intense. I have had the same reaction quite a few times since and have been trying to identify any causes.

Recently i have a feeling that i may be allergic to paracetamol. Last time the reaction came out i have previously taken a dose of paracetamol and about half an hour later i broke out with the hives reaction. When i think back it kind of makes sense that my previous reactions may well be realted to this aswell. Initially i begin to feel quite red faced and that is where the reaction starts and before i know it i am covered in it, to much discomfort. The reaction seems to last for about 4 hours in total then appears to settled down. I do not get any swelling or breathing problems but the hives is quite inflammed. Is this anything to worry about.

I will now be avoiding paracetamol but would like to find out if it is definitely that or not, but i feel daft going to my Gp about it as it isn't exactly severe as it does settle on its own accord.

xx

You probably should not use this before talking to your gp. There is no way to know how severe the next reaction may be. When you next see the Dr. make sure he knows about the hives, because it may be part of the inactive ingredients that is causing the problem. Best of luck.

Hi thanks for your reply. When you say it may be part of the inactive ingredients what exactly do you mean?

I will talk to my Gp when i next see him, surely the only way he will be able to know though is by me taking it and seeing if the reaction occurs.

i have never heard of this medication. You may want to call the pharmacist and ask them about the side effect. I have had similar side effects with something and I have called them and they have said "it's probably the ... in ..., it sometimes does that" etc. probably also a good idea to call your GP.

good luck!

the manufacturer could have changed something such as a dye in it or even a jel coating that you could be allergic too. Can you try buying in a different form. here we can get them as capsules, gel coated, buffered etc.
