My ENT doctor has recomended Somnoplasty procedure to reduce enlarged turbinates; as far as I know it is a safe ( ) office-based procedure performed using local anesthesia. I just wanted to see if someone here had one of these procedures done and what were the results. Thank you.

osmonxp - I had sinus surgery several years ago, and it involved reducing the size of my inferior turbinates. I was supposed to go back to have the latter performed again, but ran out of vacation time at work. Actually, I am planning to have that done, hopefullly yet this year. I wouldn't worry about it. It was a very easy recovery, no post-op pain to speak of, and certainly something I plan to undergo again. Granted, mine was under a local in a surgery center (although he did give me the option of the local in his office...I said "no thanks. I'd rather snooze".
My turbinates are huge, have been for a few years, and they cause problems. I started allergy shots again to see if this would help...assuming that some of my nasal/snius issues are related to allergies. We'll see.
Good luck with the decision. The procedure helped me with chronic sinus infections, and opening my nose in general. Just started swelling back up over the past 2-3 years.
