View Full Version : Red highlights fade so fast now!

Hey all,

I'm a 21 year old female and have been getting red highlights in my dark brown hair for about 6-7 months or so. The first time I got them they turned out great, lasted a long time and the color was really noticeable. Everytime after the color has been a little less but you could still see it and it lasted a decent amount of time. Finally it got to the point where it was fading very quickly and the red that faded was turning those sections blonde so my stylist suggested re-dying my hair to my natural color again and then placing the highlights on top so they would be more vivid (he also said not only will this make them stand out more but they will last a lot longer). A little less than a month ago I did this and within 2 weeks the color was almost totally gone and now I'm left again with blonde highlights where the red should be. I wash with a color safe shampoo and conditioner specifically for red hair/highlights and I even cut my showers down from every day to every other day so it wouldn't wash out as easily.

I don't want to go back to the stylist AGAIN because it's definitley not good for your hair to go about once a month and get this done plus the last time my stylist said my hair was much dryer then it normally is, maybe from all the highlighting.

Does anyone know why the color keeps fading so fast, and is there anything I can do to keep it in longer then just a couple weeks? Thanks in advance! :)
