I just got back from the rhuemi and he suggested i stop smoking because of the connection of smoking and ra. I was wondering if anyone on here was a smoker, and if you can tell me what kind of therapy to stop smoking worked for you and what didnt. I need to do something to stop, but am wondering what you would suggest might work best.
thanks to all,
Jen

Jenetti:

I was a life long (45 years) two pack a day smoker and when I quit, I used the patch and on occassion, nicotine gum. I must confess, I expected it to be a nightmare but I had very little trouble with cravings. That being said, quitting didn't help my RA one iota but at least I got rid of the cough. Good luck---you can do it.

thanks steakpie, i think i'll go that route, the patch and the gum then. I smoke about 10-12 cigarettes a day, have tried to stop on my own but keep getting headaches and tummy aches plus diarhea. With the pain of fibromyalgia plus this new thing theyre thinking is RA, well any other extra pain just puts me over the edge so i go back to smoking to keep those extra withdrawal symptoms at bay. I honestly dont think stopping smoking is going to help in any way with the RA either, and your note confirms my beliefs, but it will be a smart move anyway to do, to stop, like you said even if its just to get rid of that ugly cough.
thanks hon for replying
and hoping you have a good day today
