My mom had a kidney transplant 17 years ago and until recently has not had any problems other than some small side effects from her anti- rejection meds. I do know she takes immuran and pnedisone. (sorry for the spelling). Recently, she had gone to the Dr. for her annual blood work and her liver numbers are very high. Her Dr. ordered an liver ultra sound for next week. Has anyone had a transplanted kidney for this long? I really don't know what I am asking other than if this is someone elses story. I am so worried about her. Thank you

Just what caused your moms kidneys to fail back when she actually had that Tx done? There are many actual kidney diseases that can also affect the liver.this could be the case with your mom, thats kind of why i was wondering what promted the renal failure. also, the anti rejection meds that are needed for any given tx can also harm other organs, its kind of that trade off thing ya know?the lessor of the evils.I was rather shocked at how all of the anti rs all seemed to really be hard on all of the other organs when my son had a liver tx almost 7 years ago.but that was what his GI doc told me then when I had asked about the effects on the organs from the crappy meds that he had to take just to keep the liver.the meds were even listed as being hard on the actual liver he just got.but what choice do you have there ya know?take them so you can live or have really nice organs but be dead.
do you know just how the liver is being affected? Is it scarring or does it look okay but her numbers are just up?what are her AST ALT,and the alk phos looking like?and the bili levels?a bit more info would really help here.17 years with a transplanted kidney really IS great though.are her kidney functions all still within the norm?i hope her liver issues are reversable in some way.please let me know.Marcia
