Who do you talk to? Just your regular doctor?
What do you say?
Does medicine cost a lot?
Does it get better?

Thanks.

Welcome to the board, first of all. I'm sorry you're not feeling well but I'm glad you found us.

Write down on a piece of paper the things you feel, regardless of how trivial you think they are. Or go to depressionhurts.com, answer the questions, and print it out to show your doctor. If you don't have a printer, go to the library and print it out there.

You can go to your regular family doctor, but I'd recommend looking for a mental health clinic in your area. They usually have discounted plans for people on low income or without insurance. Some medicines do cost a lot. Be sure to tell the doc that you need something that is reasonable. They usually know about how much it will cost. If they dont, you call the pharmacy, tell them what medication, what miligram, and how many pills and they can tell you the cost. That will save you a lot of trouble.

You tell the doc everything you feel, whether it's lethargy, being not motivated, feeling irritated or angry all the time, wanting to sleep constantly, having insomnia, poor appetite......whatever it is that you are feeling. They need to know.

Medication and counselling together usually do relieve depression. Meds sometimes take up to a month to really start working, so if you start taking one, try not to give up if it doesn't work right away. I know it's hard, but you seriously have to give them time to work.

Keep in contact with the doc. They are there for you to call when you need help. Don't be afraid to call with questions. I call mine all the time.

I hope I've answered your questions, hon. If you have any more, please let me know and I'll do whatever I can to help you!

Best wishes,
Amy
