I have never felt the same since my first panic attack when I was 19. At the time I did not even know it was a panic attack. What alot of doctor's do not realize is that they severely weaken your nervous system almost immediately leaving the sufferer with constant nervousness, detachment, mood swings and the rest.

It is a living hell and there is nowhere to turn. I went from feeling normal to a nervous wreck immediately following my first attack. All the confidence I had built up throughout my early life went instantly.

I believe that the panic attacks definately caused some chemical changes inside my body which made me feel so ill and are the main cause of the anxiety feelings they leave behind.

My body reacts adversely to anything which affects the nervous system especially alcohol and anti depressants.

I do feel better these days only because I have more knowledge of my condition, but still not as strong as my pre panic days.

I had panic attacks for 2o years without knowing what they were and I dont think panic attacks do any damage to a person, detachment or derealisation is an anxiety problem that many who have never had a panic attack experience

special fears of phobias often result from panic attacks, for example a panic attack in a big supermarket may make a person panicky about going into any supermarket
panic attacks and the fear of more of them can severely reduce the self confidence and morale, but fortunately far more is known about panic attacks and how to stop them nowdays
I dont think anyone is permanently damaged by them

I've had panic attacks (not panic disorder, though) since I was three- I'm now 15, so I've had these lovely companions for 15 years... :D They're so much a part of me that I'll never want to get rid of the minor ones during a situation that always warrants a panic attack because I simply wouldn't know how to react. It's not as if there's a time when I can remember what it was like being completely free of panic attacks. My first memories are from age three onward, and I actually can remember the feeling of one of my first panic attacks when I was three. However, I've been having a particularly bad one on-and-off all day long, probably for a total of six hours so far, and continuing now because I have to give some stupid speech tomorrow. Public speaking isn't what worries me- it's the whole writing of the speech and the whole fact that I have to organize it, get my facts straight, worry if it's good enough, worry if it'll be long enough, worry if I'll have enough information, plan what I'll do if I end up not having enough information, etc. The list goes on and on...The best part is that my hands are shaking so badly that I can barely type, but can I take a Klonopin? Hell, no! That would mean that, although the panic would subside, I'd fall asleep in about 30 minutes, sleep all night through, and not finish my work! Oh, and I also have a chemistry quiz tomorrow...Fun times, fun times... I totally understand what you're going through; I go through it practically daily. If you ever want to talk, vent, or have any questions, I'm here. Good luck, and God bless!

I had a panic attack 4 weeks ago.. Which turned into straight anxiety for the past 4 weeks. The adrenaline is finally starting to work itself out now. Every body is different.. TO each his own.. Its always different!

This is what I mean about how damaging panic attacks can be. They give your nervous system a severe SHOCK which many find difficult to explain, and you are left with all the symptoms of anxiety even after the panic attack has passed.

I can agree with that. I can control my panic but not my anxeity as much as i try, I seem to worry and stress out about most things :nono:
I just want to be ableto leave the hse feeling "Normal".

I went to my dotors and said to him (when I was at my worst, if he told me i wld suffer from this for the next 10 yrs I wld do something silly) That was the truth then. It affected me, and my child, my family.
