hi all-
I'm finally STARTING to believe all my symptoms MIGHT be peri...thanks to all the support here!!!! I have worn 24 hour monitor and had several ekg's. I was supposed to have stress test but with my insurance it will cost me over 1,000.00 which I really can't afford so I cancelled. wondering how necessasary it is-dr. didn't really think it was needed due to all other results and my blood pressure and cholestrol are good, I sort of pushed for it and then freaked at cost.
Is there an over the counter test I can get to see if I'm in peri? if not, how/where do I get the test? and what is it? blood?
thanks so much!!
julie

Hi Julie,
If all your tests blood, EKG tests, etc. came out fine, more than likelihood you are going thru perimenopause, especially if you are 35 yo or older. There are no test that can diagnose you as in perimenopause. Perimenopause is a time when you could start having symptoms (there's a whole list of them) that you and most drs. can't figure out or pinpoint a cause because everything comes out normal. Most drs. don't think anything is hormonal/menopausal related unless you have hot flashes! A hormone test will not show anything until you haven't had a period for at least 6-9 months. I think Estroven puts out a menopause test but I don't know how accurate it is or if it's worth buying.
What kind of symptoms are you experiencing? and how old are you? Most women on this board have a rough time (guess that's why there's here) and need to understand what's going with their bodies suddenly.
Check out these books, "Before the Change" and "The Pause" - many of us have these and have given us a better understanding and possible solutions that may or may not relieve some of your symptoms. Many of us are on lots of supplements, and either on some kind of antidepressant, anxiety med, birth control, or HRT. Also, read and get involved with the board because there are lots of information here.
take care,
molly
