Has anyone noticed an increase in problems with hemmoroids during perimenopause? It seems like for the last few months mine have really flared up. The only change is that I am taking iron for anemia, but I am drinking plenty of water and taking a stool softener so I am not constipated. The hemmoroids started acting up before I started on the iron. Can changing hormones cause a flare up? I really haven't had a problem with these darn things for many years, just recently when alot of other peri symptoms showed up. Thanks for any input, Ann

Hi Ann,
Lovely subject to be discussing, isn't it?
I can tell you that I always had a flare-up right before I would get my period. It was such a consistent sign - usually would get my period within 1-2 hours afterwards. Which leads me to believe that hormones are definitely involved. So, yeah, I'd say perimenopause can make it worse!
Hope that helps!

Since varicose veins get worse at peri, and hemorrhoids are veins, I would think that they can be affected as well.

Try eating Oatmeal Square Cereal or Bran Flakes every morning for a week. See if it makes a difference. I eat it religiously otherwise I pay a price. :)

Thank you ladies for your responses. Belle, I will try the bran, I'm sure it will help. Peri really takes a toll on our bodies, from head to toe and everywhere inbetween! Thanks, Ann
