I was just diagnosed with depression and GAD and given Paxil as my treatment. Has anyone had any good experiences with it? I've been reading alot about the hell some people have gone through trying to get off of it. Some people have even sued the manufacturer because of severe side effects due to withdrawl. I just want to feel better and I don't need more anxiety over the anxiety medicine.

Hi miaeli!

If you are concerned about your response to paxil, maybe you should talk to your doctor about prescribing something else. There are plenty of alternatives to consider, and if you decide to change, the sooner the better. On the other hand, though, not everyone responds the same way to medications, and you might do very well on paxil. I have a friend who has been on it for 5+ years and she has never had a problem.

Good luck! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

P.S. I take Lexapro and have done well with it.

I agree, you might do well on Paxil, who knows? I hated Zoloft but was very happy with Wellbutrin. However, I did not stay that long on any of these drugs. Five years is too long, drugs are never tested for prolonged use. If you try Paxil and think it is not working after 6-8 weeks, ask for something different. Don't let your doctor keep you on it or worse, give you a higher dose.

I have the same diagnosis as you and Paxil has worked very well for me. I have been on it for about 3 years. I have come off of it twice: once for a pregnancy (switched to Zoloft), and once for other medical reasons, and I didn't have any trouble either time.
