I would like to know what experience others may have with diets and hunger. It seems that no matter what type of diet I go on (WW, Jenny Craig, Atkins, etc.) I am always hungry. I know a great deal about nutrition and I do eat healthy foods, I love fruits and vegetables and I even prefer my meats and fish to be baked or broiled over frying. Yet, :p I am ALWAYS hungry. I try diversions etc., but I am not satified until I eat enough to take the hunger away.

Is this a will power issue--if so, I am sad to report that I DO NOT have the will power. I am accomplished in just about every other areas of my life. I have a graduate degree and have succeeded in every professional job I've had. So, what's the deal? This area of my life brings me great sadness and feelings of defeat.

Besides providing healthy lignons and anti-oxidents, a good quality Flaxoil will help stave off hunger. Two tbsp a day should do it. one in the a.m. and one in the p.m., with meals. I like Barlean's High-Lignon Flaxoil. Store it in the refrigerator or freezer (oil doesn't freeze hard) and remember to shake it thoroughly to mix the lignons back into the oil. They separate and fall to the bottom of the bottle between use. You can't cook with flaxoil but you can either take it straight or hide it in cereal, soups, salad dressings, smoothies, etc.

If you prefer, consider eating flaxseeds instead. It takes 3 tbsp flaxseeds to equal 1 tbsp of flaxoil. The flaxseeds need to be coarsely ground as the whole seeds will slide through your digestive system.

You'll find flaxoil at the health food stores, just be sure to buy it already refrigerated or frozen as it will turn rancid if old or at room temperature.

I've been on the Fat Flush Plan (Ann Louise Gittleman) for over 2 years and I've never been hungry. Not so with other diets I've tried. I'm on phase 3 maintenance right now.

Believe it or not, exercise is a great way to delay hunger for 1 to 2 hours. If I'm not shecduled to eat a meal for another hours or so I hop on the bike and watch some tv all the while losing those hunger pangs. :)

Instead of eating just three big meals a day, I've heard it's better to have 3 smaller meals for your main meals, but inbetween have small healthy snacks. So you're actually having 5 to 6 small meals...emphasizing "small" meals. This way you always have something in your stomach and shouldn't feel hungry.

I also believe in drinking a full glass of water whenever I feel the urge to chow down on something. It usually takes the urge away.
