Hi Everyone-
Does anyone find that alcohol truly fuels their depression? Or are you like me...feeling good only when imbibing?

Hi....I think, with me it's a little of both. I feel better while imbibing, but then I feel guilty afterward because I know it's better for me if I don't, both physically and mentally.

I think that alcohol numbs our feelings for awhile. I think that it is best not too drink very much. I really enjoy wine and if I have 2 glasses I am fine, anymore than that, I feel horrible the next day http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dizzy.gif Also, if you are on antidepressants, it might enhance the effects.

Jayellcee:
Beware the evils of drinking! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wink.gif I sure try to. Of course you feel good WHILE you're doing it, BUT afterwards, you're going to feel awful. That's STILL a result of drinking. Plus, drinking actually contributes to depression and people often get depressed BECAUSE they drink too much. A lot of alcoholics claim that they drink because they are depressed, although they weren't depressed before they started drinking.
So take a look at your behavior! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wink.gif
Yeah, I think Bellajoon is right, a/d's enhance the effects of alcohol not to mention you REALLY feel awful the day afterwards, because alcohol counteracts the effects of the antidepressants.
I made the mistake of imbibing a bit too much last night! Because of the antidepressant/alcohol stuff, I haven't had any more than 2 drinks in a day for a pretty long time (at least 4-5 months), but I was hanging outside with the neighbors and had a little too much fun. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/tongue.gif Oh well!
