I have been on Effexor XR 300mg/day..the largest dose you can take safely..since last August. It works fairly well, but just concerned about such the high dose. I use to take Prozac for years, but I think the effectiveness wore off so I switched to Zoloft...didn't really help very well and then I tried Wellbutrin..that made me go crazy literally. I have seen a lot of talk about Lexapro??? Sexual Dysfunction has always been a terrible side effect of these antidepressants..is there one out there that doesn't effect you sexually?
Has anyone heard about the possibility of a new antidepressant coming out that is a patch?? I don't go to therapy currently..I can't afford it and insurance doesn't pay.
has anyone been able to go off their meds completely and be okay?
Thanks!
Michelle

Hi Michelle, I just started the Effexor XR yesterday, so I'm only at the 37.5mg dose, but my SIL takes it and she hasn't noticed too much of a difference in the sexual dysfunction department. Unfortunately, like you, my insurance doesn't pay for counselling, so I have to rely on the medication alone. I already have no libido due to the depression, so anything would be an improvement. If you hear of something, please let me know. Welbutrin is the only one I've heard of so far that helps in the sppetite and libido areas and you've already tried that one.
Good Luck!

I am sorry to hear that you cannot have therapy. I have been getting rid of all my meds little by little. Xanax is my last one and hopefully in two or three months I will be really drug free. I overcame my depression and anxiety through therapy. The meds helped, but it's not the same. I feel more in control now than when I was relying on pills. Plus I also had a horrible experience with the first medication and I know it's hell trying to find the right one.
