Hello everyone,
I have a colonoscopy coming up next week and I am getting scared.. I really do not know if I need one. I am 33yrs old i do not have colon cancer in the family. but i have been haveing what feels like spasms in my colon and everyonce in a while i have a little blood on the TB.. I have had a CT scan and it said i had a couple of diverticula on my colon. but anyways I am scared that something will go wrong like dying during it..I know they say its pretty safe but I still am scared. If anyone can help me ease my mind that would be great..I do stress to much..Thank you all for your time..

I had my first one about a month ago after putting it off for years. I have a strong family history of colon cancer. After having the proceedure I felt pretty stupid for putting it off. It was a breeze and the worrying that I did for all of that time was for nothing. Don't sweat it. It can save your life. The best time to have one done, in my oppinion, is when you don't think you need it. If you wait until you are having symptoms and are scared enough to finally have it done it may be too late. If you are feeling fine they will probably find nothing or at the worst find something very early when it is no big deal. We always fear the unknow. Once you have the first one and they find nothing then you can go every 5 years and you will know that you will never die of colon cancer. I mean in the end you will die of something but it won't be that. And after watching my Father and Grandmother die from it there has to be a better way to go.

Also one more thing. The drugs they give you for the proceedure are awsome. They gave me Versed, it's almost worth it just for that :)

I have had one, with no problems. I think what I have heard people worrying about is waking up in the middle of it. If you are concerned with this, I hope you will share this concern with the doctor. I had an anesthesiologist present during mine, and I can't remember a thing!! Then for a few hours after you get home, you may have some gas issues, as they pump you up a little for a better look. I just took a nap on my tummy and it resolved itself pretty well. And maybe you can ask for some pretty pictures too!
