 What is happening!!! Now I think I am getting a mustache!! I've been noticing this darker, almost shadowy area above my lip. I saw some fuzz... nothing too extreme, but I could see the darkness.... so I decided to use one of those cream hair removers made for facial hair. I've done it twice in the last month. Right when I do it the area seems super smooth. But for some strange reason I still see that shadowy darkness above my lip.... where is the cry icon? I can't stand this! Has this ever happened to anyone? How do you get rid of facial hair? Is laser permanent and does anyone know how much it costs? Is it even hair because I can't get the shadow to go away... even right after the cream.

PS- I should add... I'm 43 and in peri-HELL for the last year

Hi:

I don't have that problem but I do have a friend on another board who was commenting on the same thing. She has been going to get her upper lip waxed. She says that although it is painful, it keeps her upper lip area looking normal for about 6 wks.

Edited to add: I think I'm kind of grateful that I'm blonde. No telling how much hair is there that's too fine and light to see. :)

Why don't you give bleaching cream a try? My girls both have hair above their lips (Italian and Hispanic). They use the bleaching cream. It temporarily lightens the skin too. Then you can see if that dark shadow is still there.

I think the brand is Jolene and you can get it at Walgreens for around $4. Or you can use the Walgreen brand. Both work great. :)

Thanks you guys... I'll try the bleach first... then if that doesn't work, maybe waxing... then laser

I'm so upset... I feel like I'm falling apart in this damn peri.

I wonder, if maybe I'm about to get a period (I never know when these days... cycle could be 30, could be 45, could be 70, could be 12) .....anyhow the reason being I almost balled at work today at a commercial on TV just because it had a cute puppy in it, and a long time ago I had a puppy that eventually died.... see what I mean?)

:dizzy:

I can cry at the drop of a hat too. I now try to control it because my kids just act like I am such a sissy when it happens. It can be so embarrassing.

I did see Felecity Huffman on Oprah yesterday and she had to stop herself from crying when Oprah just started to ask her a question. She said that she was so happy to be on her show that she could cry. I thought to myself, sounds like perimenopause!

Omg I cry when someone wins something on the Price is Right! And the tears drop down my face into these new hairs growing on my upper lip. I got the same problem. Mine aren't really dark and I thought it was just a shadow until my hubby said something about my moustache one day. There's a few hairs there but that's it. I have some peach fuzz on my cheekbones (it's a light color) not dark like the hair on my head but...are there any women here that know how to get rid of this? It's bad enough I have rosacea and spider veins but now peach fuzz? It's bad enough that insurance companies call this cosmetic. Scuse me, but I consider this cosmetic if you're a man, but being a woman this is NOT cosmetic. It has to do with being able to go out in public w/o feeling like everyone is looking at you. And one more question I have is this: Once we get through this peri-menopause and are in menopause do those hairs go away and all the bitchies go away too? Or are we like this forever?

I think the hairs are here to stay. At least they are for my co-worker and my mom. My mother-in-law who is puerto rican lost most of her body hair as she aged. She had no leg hair or arm hair. Imagine not having to shave your legs!

I don't know about the crabbiness. It might be an individual thing.

The Price is Right.... LMAO!! I soooo know what you mean! I am capable of tearing up over a commercial.
Well, right now as I type this I have Sally Hansen cream hair remover for face on my upper lip. (need to kill 8 minutes here) My husband bowls on Wed. nights so this is when I do this, lol.
You mentioned rosacea and it caught my eye. I also have mild rosacea. I just started using a cream called Nortate and it has really helped. It is an Rx but so far I see results-- have you heard of this?

I bought an "adrean" bleaching kit, and tested it on my arm. MY ARM WENT WHITE ON THE PATCH!....I'm so not game to put this on my face O_O
and have this white strip on my lip. Anyone else get this problem with it?

I don't know why I hadn't noticed this thread before, because I also am bothered by facial hair. I've always had very light peach fuzz, but a few years ago there just started to be more and more of it. (I read somewhere recently that bcp can cause this - and I was on it most of my adult life  ) Anway, I'm very embarassed about this abundant peach fuzz on my lip and chin. It's even more noticeable on the sides of my face. I've been doing a little of my own waxing and plucking, but am not very good and getting rid of all of it, but most of it. I did a free consult recently at a dermatologists office that does laser hair removal and laser skin resurfacing, peels, etc. She told me that light hair just doesn't do well in laser removal so that is out for me. She did tell me about a topical product called Vaniqa (you have to have a prescription) that will reduce the hair growth. It's good to use in combo with other hair removal (like waxing, creams, laser, etc) But you have to use it constantly. Anyway, I'm going to make an appointment (because I have a weird dry spot on my nose for the Derm. to look at) and maybe get a prescription. I'll have to save my pennies for the laser resurfacing - VERY expensive.

ALSO, I've heard that if you wax your upper lip (or other areas) be sure to use sun screen. For some reason, your skin will be very susceptible to the sun afterwards and you can end up with a dark shadow. I worked with someone that this happened to and she was very upset because she'd had hers done in a salon and they didn't warn her to use sun screen.
