My ENT doctor put me on Biaxin XL for 10 days (sinus infection) well I am on my third day and I feel like if Biaxin is destroying my stomach and wanted to take some Prilosec but I don’t want to do more harm than good; I asked my pharmacist if I would be in any danger by mixing those medications and she said no but she was not 100% sure. What do you think? Thank you.

If you feel like Biaxin is destroying your stomach, this is something your doctor needs to know. He or she may want to switch you to another antibiotic, or at least tell you if it is OK to take Prilosec or not!

I totally agree. I also had stomach trouble with Biaxin. It made my stomach hurt so badly, not nauseous, but horrible stomach pain. And I don't usually have stomach troubles from medicine.

Did you experience any other side effects besides stomach problems? I believe Biaxin it making me very anxious with mild palpitations and sweaty hands; lately, every medication I take (including Tylenol) makes me feel kind of weird I guess all started after I took Levaquin for 5 days.

Within 24 hours of taking Biaxin, not only did my acid reflux go out of control (and nothing I took helped this), I couldn't keep any food down (not even water), muscle weakness, heart beating so much it hurt and I thought I was having a heart attack. I stopped taking it and called the doctors' office, and they switched me over to good ole z-pak. Which I had wanted in the first place.

I am having the same problems, I can deal with the stomach issue but the palpitations are driving me crazy. How long did you take it for?

No, just the stomach problems.

Biaxin made me SOOO much sicker when I took it. Ran a high fever, coughed up insane amounts of mucous, as well as blood one day, made my sinuses feel like they were swelling shut, made me cough so much i'd get dizzy.... couldn't sleep at night.. even on 2 spoons of codeine, I still hacked up a lung all night. No Dr. believed me that it was some kind of adverse reaction, because "its a good antibiotic, strong!". But my Dr. did switch me to Omnicef, and then my ENT put me on Augmentin.. neither of which gave me those horrible symptoms or made me sick.
About the prilosec. I think it's safe. When I was on Biaxin and when I was on Augmentin, I was also on Prednisone at the same time and the pharmacist and my Dr. told me it was safe. It helped me TREMENDOUSLY because prednisone gives me such bad acid reflux. Within a week, my acid reflux was completely gone.

Biaxin was the first antibiotic that was approved for use in treating the bacteria that causes ulcers (H pylori) and it was often taken along with a Proton Pump Inhibitor like Prilosec or Prevacid.

But, not everyone reacts the same!!!
