Can you still have peri symptoms while on birth control pills? I am 41 and have been on the pill for years. Lately I've had chest pain (I have GERD, but now having bad spell), left hand tingling like it's asleep, muscle twitches, night sweats, today I had what I expect are 2 hot flashes.

i am 46 and have been on birth control for a long time also..when i went to my doctor she said that you can still have peri symptoms but probably won't be as bad..and when I want to check my levels i will get off of birth control for 6 weeks and then i will see where my hormones are at..Now recently i got hypothyroidism and i am wondering if the birth control pill has something to do with that.

I still had symptoms while I was on bcp, although I do know of women who felt wonderful and who were symptom free. The bcp made some of my symptoms more tolerable, but they did not totally eliminate them. I think I recently read a post here from someone who found relief from bcp.

I also take the bcp and have found complete relief. I often get a headache during the placebo week but other than that, I feel fine. Do you take the pill continously or do you take the active pill for 3 weeks and then the placebo for 1 week? During the week that you are not taking active pills, it is possible to experience perimenopausal symptoms due to the hormonal drop. If it is during this week that you are having symptoms it is not unusual. I have read that for most women the pill will help with symptoms but since they are ususally low dose pills that the doctors prescribe, some women can still have problems while on the pill. Hope this helps.
