Does anyone know what type of cream or lotion is recommended for anal skin irritation? I'm using suppository medication and the skin inside is starting to feel a little irritated. I wanted to use something before I have major skin irritation. Any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks

I've used Vaseline or zinc oxide salve with good results. What you want is a heavy 'barrier' coating that will prevent the irritant from touching the skin.

I'm sorry. I misunderstood your original question. You should not put anything "inside" where the suppository goes. The medicine contained in it needs to absorb into those tissues, so coating them with a barrier salve would be counterproductive. When I read your question, I thought you meant the suppository is irritating the external skin, which is the only place you should apply the salve or Vaseline.

If you have internal irritation from the suppository, perhaps a call to the prescribing doctor or pharmacist is in order.

The best ointment I have ever used is Medicone Rectal but the company went out of business. The tube I have is at least 10 years old. I bought some several years ago that was prepared by the Bogard Drug -- I contacted them online.
It contains 5 or 6 active ingredents-- it sticks like glue and does not stain clothes. 1 tube lasts a long ---long time. Over 35 years I only bought 3 tubes. --- No wonder they went out of business!!!

Thanks everyone - I was referring to internal irritation. I spoke to a pharmacist today who said the only thing to use is a drop of water to act as a lubricant and the irritation could by rubbing when it's inserted. Fun stuff but real life.
